Gas Permeable Contact Lenses: Beneficial for Healthy Eyes

Gas permeable vision care, cost gas permeable contact lenses, gas permeable contact lens care

There are two kinds of contact lenses available to help people with their vision correction. The most commonly known is the soft lens but the lesser known is the gas permeable contact lens, also known as GP or RGP, rigid gas permeable lenses.

Gas permeable lenses are stiff but they do not belong to the category of hard contacts, which are now out of date. PMMA was the material used to manufacture the hard lenses. The main problem with this material was that they were uncomfortable to wear. Another defect with this material was that it did not permit oxygen to pass. And therefore, the eyes remained unhealthy.

Soft lenses are even made of the same material i.e. PMMA where as the gas permeable contact lenses are a made of a new technology – silicone. The lenses are more flexible because of the new material. Silicone permits regular flow of oxygen through the GP lenses. This provides the person with great comfort and good eye health. The flow of oxygen permitted by the silicone made GP lenses is more than that of the soft lenses.

Even after having a smaller diameter than soft lenses, gas permeable contact lenses provide a clear vision and have more strength than the other one. The best thing about GPs is that they can be easily cleaned. They are even cheaper for they are long lasting than the soft contact lenses.

GP lenses are stiff and therefore retain its shape even after blinking. You can break the lenses but can t tear them. They are very long-lasting, you just need to show a little care and it will last for years.

The most important thing about the RGP lenses is that that it is made of a material that allows regular flow of oxygen ensuring a healthy eye and a correct vision. People who are very particular about their vision quality will be very satisfied after using RGP lenses.
The individuals suffering from astigmatism are very much benefited by the use of gas permeable lenses than any other lenses. They will understand the difference once they start using it.

Gas permeable lenses are even available for people having presbyopia for they come in various multifocal and bifocal designs. People who have had a refractive surgery can wear the GP lenses.

Even after being a better solution than the soft lenses, GP contacts are not much preferred because it requires time to adapt. It takes some time for people to receive the comfort from the lens. To provide this comfort, Synerg Eyes lens are available in the market.
