Custom Contact Lenses: Solution for Astigmatism
Astigmatism blurred vision, toric contact lenses for astigmatism, glasses for astigmatism
Custom contact lenses are the best solution for people who have difficulty
in wearing regular lenses because of excess astigmatism or irregular shape
of their eye. These lenses provide the individual with sharp and comfortable
vision which they do not receive by using the regular contact lenses.
A custom contact lens is available in both soft and rigid RGP or GP lens
materials. Wearing these lenses give you a correct vision that the other
contact lenses fail to provide.
Soft Custom Contact Lens
A custom lens comes in soft contact lenses. People with astigmatism can
opt for the soft custom contact lens if they do not receive any help from
regular contact lenses.
Soft custom lenses are not much beneficial as the GP or gas permeable
lenses but they are good for advanced levels of astigmatism. They can
provide a better correction of the excess astigmatism than the toric contact
lenses.
2.50 diopters of astigmatism can be corrected by the toric contact lenses
where as the soft custom lenses can correct a higher amount of astigmatism.
They are capable of providing sharper and accurate correction vision.
GAS Permeable Custom Lenses
Gas permeable contact lens provides sharper vision than the soft custom
lenses. People who have a certain kind of astigmatism benefit the most
with GP lenses.
Traditionally, the gas permeable lenses were designed to provide extra
oxygen for the health of the eye. There is a small gap between the lens’s
edge and surface of the eye. When a person blinks, the tears flow at the
back of the lens due to the lifted edge. This way eye gets more oxygen
for its good health.
There is a constant contact of the edge of gas permeable lens and the
eyelid. These lenses do not remain stable while blinking. These are the
reasons why few people hesitate in wearing the GP lenses. They do not
receive the required comfort.
But today the manufacturers of these contact lenses have understood the
discomfort of the users and have brought in a better technology to solve
their problem.
Today, the GP lenses are manufactured in accordance to the design of
the lens and the way the eye is measured.
The curvature of your eye surface i.e. cornea is measured with the help
of keratometer. The doctor uses the reflections of the light from the
cornea and thus finds out the flattest and the steepest eye meridians.
The result of this measurement is utilized to manufacture the back area
of the gas permeable lens for a proper fit.
Correct fit of the GP lens means a comfortable and sharp vision.
